About our Soundscape

For five years since 2008, Chino City Museum of Art has held “Soundscape Workshops” to explore our local community via the sounds that surround us. In these events, we listened to the sounds recorded by participating citizens, and collected 1,017 sound sources from a total of 72 participants. In fiscal year 2012, we selected 32 sound sources from this “Library of Soundscapes” and presented them as our “Best Soundscape Selection”. Soundscapes encapsulate a time and space, and bring back memories of our local community. In this fiscal year of 2013, we explore further forms of expression that utilize our soundscape archive to seek the appeal and potential of soundscapes. From October 2013 to February 2014, we hold two workshops and invite participants for these workshops as well as invite works of sound art. As a grand finale in March 2014, we exhibit an installation in which you can experience soundscapes surrounded by multiple loudspeakers, present collaborations with dance performances and submitted works of art, and hold a music concert and a symposium.
